Deep Neck Lift

Deep neck lift surgery is a specialized procedure for people with an oblique neck or a double chin. Most people think of a double chin as caused by excessive fat. However, fat is not the only factor that causes the appearance of a double chin. While neck fat can sometimes be treated with liposuction, superficial and deep neck structures contribute to an oblique neck or double chin. This special type of surgery addresses the oblique neck or double chin components, including the neck’s deeper structures.
Most doctors do not perform procedures that involve doing under the platysma muscle because it can be a delicate and precarious surgery. Dr. Altman of Altman Aesthetics Center is one of the few surgeons in the country to perform this complex procedure. If you’re struggling with an oblique neck or double chin that goes beyond typical fat buildup, Dr. Altman can help. Dr. Altman is proud to be a leading provider of Deep Neck Lifts in Englewood Cliffs, NJ, where we also serve clients living in the surrounding areas of Tenafly, Cresskill, Alpine, Fort Lee, and Edgewater, NJ. We proudly serve clients in New York City and Purchase, New York. Benefits of a Deep Neck Lift

A deep neck lift provides different benefits for each patient who is looking to sculpt, define, and contour the appearance of their neck. Other notable benefits include:

What to Expect During a Deep Neck Lift Surgery

Deep neck lift operations involve an incision hidden under the chin. This incision allows Dr. Altman access to both superficial and deep structures. The incision varies in length, but you generally will not notice any scar after the surgery is complete and you have healed up.
The first thing corrected during this surgery is superficial fat. The superficial fat reduces the build-up of fat that contributes to the appearance of a double chin. Liposuction is often used to reduce fat, and it can also tighten the overlying skin over time. Additional small incisions are done behind the earlobe to contour the jawline with lipo.
Next, the deeper fat is addressed. The deep fat is not removed with lipo. Instead, it is directly removed with excision. Most deep fat that plastic surgeons remove is in the central portion of the neck, under the chin. After this, the deep neck muscles and glands can be modified. Some surgeons tighten the platysma muscle together in the midline. This helps lift the neck into a more youthful appearance. Next, salivary glands under the jaw are reduced. Depending on each patient’s unique body, those glands are removed or reduced in size. The deep neck muscles are called the platysma. These are tightened to improve the neck’s profile and contour further.
The last part of the deep neck lift is the chin bone augmentation if needed. This is completed with a silicone implant. Since facial bone is lost as we age, many people can benefit from a chin implant.

How a Deep Neck Lift Works

A deep neck lift is a surgical procedure for firming, sculpting, and refining the contours of the neck. During this specialized surgery, the layers of the neck are lifted to achieve smooth definition, including all aspects of the neck—skin, muscle, fat, glands, and connective tissue. The end result is a more attractive, youthful, defined neck and jawline.

Understanding the Anatomy of the Neck

The neck consists of layers—skin, fat, muscle, glands, and bone make up the different layers. Each layer contributes to the appearance of a double chin or weak chin. Some people may have muscle or superficial fat issues, while others are dealing with deep fat or gland factors. Various combinations of each layer play into the appearance of the neck. Only certain surgeons know to examine and treat the different layers, performing the perfect deep neck lift to rejuvenate the appearance of your neck. Dr. Altman is one of the select few surgeons to perform this surgery. He has the knowledge to determine which layers are causing your issues. He then performs the surgery, correcting each problem within the different layers of the neck for the perfect deep neck lift.

Deep Neck Lift Results*

The longevity of your surgical results depends on several factors, including lifestyle, genetics, and the ongoing skin care and sun protection you achieve. Deep neck lifts are often a durable procedure. As the aging process continues, most people desire other treatments in areas like the face, cheeks, or jowls to further improve their appearance as they age. However, the area under the chin is unlikely to need deep reshaping again. As always, individual results will vary.*

Deep Neck Lift Candidacy

Deep neck lifts lift the neck contours but do not address loose, drooping skin in the submental region. Because of this, a deep neck lift is most appropriate for younger patients under 50 with genetically heavier necks. People over 50 experiencing loose skin in the neck region may be better suited for a facelift combined with a deep neck lift.
The ideal candidates for a deep neck lift include people who:
