what to expect during a facelift
Facelift surgery is typically a same-day or outpatient surgery. After arriving on the morning of your surgery, you will be placed under general anesthesia. During the surgery, Dr. Altman makes incisions along the ear, hidden in the natural skin creases or folds, sometimes extending into the hairline. Next, he lifts and repositions the underlying facial muscles and tissue and may remove, reshape, or reposition fat. Excess skin is removed, the skin is re-draped over the new face contours, and the incisions are sutured close.
Dr. Altman also puts on a massage dressing in the OR, and he sees you 12 to 18 hours later to put on a new dressing, which may be taken off on the 3rd day. Once the dressing is removed, you can shower.
He also does fat grafting after a rhytidectomy. This technique injects the harvested adipose tissue underneath the skin for reconstruction or facial rejuvenation.
Dr. Altman often does laser skin resurfacing after a facelift using the Sciton TRL Laser. Laser skin resurfacing smooths fine lines and wrinkles and corrects age spots, acne scars, and discoloration. In addition, it improves skin tone and texture to help improve the appearance of your skin to complement your new rejuvenated face.

Facelift Recovery & Aftercare
Your facelift recovery with Dr. Altman lasts roughly 2 weeks. The front of the ear stitches come out in a week, and you can expect the back of the ear stitches to come out in 2 weeks.
After your facelift surgery, you can expect to experience bruising and swelling. This will subside over the first two weeks following your procedure, and results will become more apparent. Most people return to work at around 2 weeks, although swelling will continue to improve for the following 4 weeks. As always, individual experiences can vary per person.*
Facelift Results*
The results of your facelift are long-lasting. However, aging continues regardless of surgery, meaning eventually, the results will fade. While a rhytidectomy takes countless years off of your appearance, it cannot stop you from continuing to age. Most people enjoy their results for about a decade or 10 years, sometimes longer or shorter, depending on your body.*
Additional Facelift Options
In addition to a facelift, Dr. Altman offers a Mentoplasty or chin augmentation. This is completed during the facelift procedure. This reshapes the chin either by enhancement with an implant or reduction surgery on the bone. Dr. Altman does his chin enhancements using a small implant that cannot be felt on the outside.
Additional parts of a facelift include Otoplasty or pinning the ears back. The operation has many variations, but the procedure is commonly known for correcting protruding ears and can be done simultaneously as a Rhytidectomy.
A deep neck lift is also available for patients. This surgical option lifts the layers of the neck into a more youthful position. It achieves smooth definition, including the skin, muscle, fat, glands, and connective tissue. The effect is an attractive, defined, youthful-looking neck and jawline.
