What to Expect During Liposuction Surgery

There are a variety of liposuction procedures. Despite the difference in procedures, all liposuction techniques follow the same basic principles. Liposuction reduces fat in the body by physically removing the fat buildup during surgery. Liposuction is not a weight loss treatment, but results are not often measured in lost pounds. However, most people lose an average of five or up to 11 pounds afterward. Weight loss is not the ultimate goal. Instead, the purpose of lipo is stubborn fat removal for body contouring, cleaning up those areas that do not respond to diet or exercise.
Many people who undergo lipo often worry that their skin will sag afterward. The truth is that it is very unlikely for the skin to sag after liposuction surgery unless the surgeon removes a considerable volume of fat. If a large amount of fat is removed in someone with pre-existing skin laxity, they can expect to experience loose skin post-surgery.
