How to Prepare for Rhinoplasty
Before Rhinoplasty, you must meet with Dr. Altman. During this meeting, you discuss various factors determining whether a nose job surgery is best suited for you. The meeting usually includes reviewing your medical history, a physical exam, and examining your Rhinoplasty expectations. If Dr. Altman determines this cosmetic surgery is a good option for you, your surgery will be scheduled.
There are a few things to keep in mind before the surgery. As with any surgery, you should not take medicines containing aspirin or ibuprofen for two weeks before and two weeks after surgery. The medications may make you bleed more. You should only take medicines approved by Dr. Altman.
In addition, if you smoke or vape, you should stop for 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after the procedure. Smoking and vaping slow healing after surgery and can result in tissue death. You could also get an infection.
Each Rhinoplasty procedure is customized to fit the needs of each patient’s unique anatomy and goals. Before the procedure, you are given general anesthesia.
Rhinoplasty can be done through a variety of surgical ways, including cartilage, bone, or soft tissue manipulation. It may be done inside the nose or through an external cut between the nostrils at the narrowest part.
During the surgery, Dr. Altman can readjust the bone and cartilage under the skin. Cartilage may be taken deeper inside the nose or the ear for minor changes. For more significant changes, cartilage may be needed. If this is the case, Dr. Altman uses MTF, which is cartilage from a cadaver. It is completely safe, and there is no risk of transferring disease. After these changes are complete, Dr. Altman sews the cuts back up.
Sometimes, the wall between the two sides of the nose is bent or misshapen. Known as a deviated septum, this can be straightened during surgery to make breathing easier. Adjusting the nasal structure also improves breathing. After the surgery, you will be monitored and moved to a recovery room. Depending on your surgery and how you feel, you may be permitted to leave that day or be asked to stay overnight for observation.

Rhinoplasty Aftercare
After your surgery, Dr. Altman covers the nose with a splint. The splint protects the new shape of the nose. In addition, it reduces swelling. Most people will often wear the splint for a week. Most people will experience mild bruising and swelling for a few weeks. Usually, you can return to work within a week or so after the surgery. The appearance of the nose will continue to improve for up to a year afterward.
Dr. Altman will give you specific aftercare instructions. These are a few important things to observe following your nasal surgery:

Sneeze and cough with your mouth open.

Avoid pulling clothing over your head.
Try button-up blouses instead of shirts or sweaters.
Rhinoplasty vs Septoplasty
Rhinoplasty changes the shape of the nose, both in terms of functionality and aesthetics.
Septoplasty, on the other hand, is a surgery solely to improve breathing. This surgery straightens the wall(septum) inside of the nose that divides the nasal passages. When the septum is crooked, breathing through the nose can make it more challenging. A septoplasty surgery is often done at the same time as a Rhinoplasty to help improve the quality of life for the patient.

How long does Rhinoplasty last?
Rhinoplasty results are permanent. They permanently change the structure and functionality of the nose and will typically last a lifetime. Aging can create some gradual changes in the nose’s appearance, but most of the original improvements will be permanently noticeable.
How fast do you recover from Rhinoplasty?
Your recovery depends on your body and the extent of your surgery. However, most people usually recover within seven to 10 days. However, the recovery time could be as long as two months up to a year. As always, individual experiences will vary.*
