Breast Augmentation

A Breast Augmentation, also known as a “breast aug” or “boob job” by patients, involves using breast implants to increase the size of your breasts. This procedure can also restore breast volume lost after weight reduction or pregnancy, achieve a more rounded breast shape or improve natural breast size asymmetry.

A Breast Augmentation can help:

  • Increase fullness and projection of your breasts
  • Improve balance of breast and hip contours
  • Enhance your self-image and self-confidence
  • implants may also be used for breast reconstruction after mastectomy or injury

What breast augmentation surgery can’t do

Breast augmentation does not correct severely drooping breasts. A breast lift may be required along with a breast augmentation for sagging breasts to look fuller and lifted.

Breast lifting can often be done at the same time as your augmentation or may require a separate operation. Dr. Altman will assist you in making this decision.

A Breast Lift, also known as a Mastopexy, raises the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to reshape and support the new breast contour.

Sometimes the areola becomes enlarged over time, and a breast lift will reduce this as well.

A breast lift can rejuvenate your figure with a breast profile that is more youthful and uplifted. A woman’s breasts often change over time, losing their youthful shape and firmness.

  • Pregnancy
  • Breastfeeding
  • Weight fluctuations
  • Aging
  • Gravity
  • Heredity

A Breast Lift Cannot

Breast lift surgery does not significantly change the size of your breasts or round out the upper part of your breast. If you want your breasts to look fuller, consider breast lift and breast augmentation surgery. Dr. Altman will properly assist you to determine if a breast augmentation is also needed.

Breast reduction surgery, also known as macromastia is an operation to remove extra fat, tissue, and skin from your breasts. If you have large breasts that are out of proportion to the rest of your body and causing neck pain, back pain, or other symptoms, you may be considering breast reduction surgery. Most women who get breast reduction are very satisfied with the results.

Who can benefit from a Breast Reduction

Disproportionately large breasts can cause both physical and emotional distress for patients. Patients with macromastia may experience physical discomfort resulting from the weight of their breasts. The resulting pain can make it challenging for some patients to perform common physical activities. Along with the physical ailments of macromastia, some patients may suffer from emotional distress or more significant mental health problems as a result of their large breasts.

Although breast reduction is often performed to address medical issues, patients who do not have the symptoms of macromastia but are unhappy with the size of their breasts can still pursue breast reduction as an aesthetic procedure.

Gynecomastia Surgery, also known as a “male breast reduction” is the removal of excess breast tissue in males. Gynecomastia is a medical term to describe enlarged breasts in men. You may be surprised to know that all men have breast tissue. It is the same type of breast tissue that women have, but in much smaller amounts. With gynecomastia, the breast tissue tends to grow too much and is typically located right under the nipple/areola. Oftentimes with gynecomastia this tissue mass will dramatically enlarge. It’s common for the male breast to become fatty and even sag, resulting in an unhealthy, misshapen, more feminine looking breast.

A good candidate is in good overall health and is within the normal body weight as well as ruling out any other underlying issues.
